The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tuxedo watch was introduced at the 2009 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). Within the familiar and beloved octagonal form of the Royal Oak–a luxury legend since its debut in 1972–this reference presents a new and particularly precious interpretation of the large format “Jumbo” watch which endures as a celebrated reference to connoisseurs of fine watchmaking around the world. The 39mm white gold case is set with 4.65 carats of round brilliant diamonds that cover both the angular case and the eight-sided bezel with its signature hexagonal screws. While many luxury watches feature diamonds on their dials, Audemars Piguet takes this fine detail a notable step further: with the Royal Oak Tuxedo, the individual hour indices and even the hour and minute hands–both crafted from white gold–showcase sparkling rows of set round brilliant diamonds. The distinguished initials of the brand stand proudly at the 12 o’clock position.
Audemars Piguet, a historic watch manufacture known for producing truly remarkable haute horlogerie products, is becoming equally known as a brand that is a “must have” for celebrities and the well-heeled. In recent years, Audemars Piguet has become virtually inseparable from such action stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone (who is also famously addicted to Panerai timepieces). The brand is also a favorite of such pop musicians as Usher, and is a frequent companion of both Shaquille O’Neal and Jay-Z, both of whom have limited edition Royal Oak Offshore timepieces dedicated to them.
